I modeled the planter box in Solidworks. The center section made out of acrylic is meant to hold plants, and there are holes in the bottom for any water to drain out. The wood base is protected by a sheet of acrylic as well. I constructed the box using a lasercutter. Pictured below is the final version of the box, with a modified pattern.
